2017 Winter Beauty Picks

It’s been so long since I’ve posted, but I’m back and better than ever for the new year! This week I’m posting about my beauty picks for this winter, and seeing that we’re already in the swing of things where cold weather is concerned, I’ll just go ahead and get right into it!

So this season, for me is all about the deep cool tones. I love a bold berry coloured lip and dramatic eyes, but I also equally love the nude and neutral colours at this time of year. I’ll be listing my go to’s for face, eyes and lips.

I’m really thinking that the Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Palette is really going to be a favourite for every season (as I think I stated in my Fall Beauty Picks). It has great colours for the cheeks and highlighting, for a variety of skin tones. Very versatile, and flattering, and it makes it easy to get your glow/frost on in the chilly weather.

Next to that, I’ve recently picked up the City Color Collection Baked Bronzer. Now, because I’m dark skinned, this would do nothing in the way of a bronzer for me. It’s too light and pink, and far too shimmery. But as a highlight? Fabulous. Even as a blush if I want a light dusting of colour one day! For those who are more fair, I think this could be a good bronzer. I think it should be used with a fairly light hand.

This winter, I’m going for deep, yet bold tones as well as neutrals and nudes, and the Mirage Palette from Coastal Scents gives you all of those options. It’s a great go-to palette for everyday wear anyway, with a variety of shades in different finishes (matte, satin, shimmer) that offers you the chance to be understated or to stand out (though I definitely feel like the colours are more everyday friendly than anything else). For times when you really want to stand out there is BAE by Colourpop. It is the most beautiful duo-tone blue and purple based shade full of purple and blue glitter to match the undertones. And as a more subtle standout colour, I’m liking Central Perk from Colourpop. A nice warm matte burgundy that has a tad bit of blue glitter in it.

So for lips this winter, I’m loving the deep, bold colours. NYX Butter Lipstick in Licorice is that perfect deep berry red. A good lipliner to pair with that is the L.A. Girl Lipliner in Currant. Another bold choice that I love, especially in the winter, is MAC’s Cyber. And for those days where I’m not too into colour, I love, love, love the BH Cosmetics Forever Nude Aqua Glosses. They are so opaque, and the colours show up great, even on lips with deeper pigmentation, like mine. I’m showing the shade Nutmeg.

And those are my picks for the winter this year. I’m sure I will have future beauty looks featuring these products, so be sure to keep a lookout for them in coming posts!
